Anyone who lives in Oakland, CA knows that the city can get more than just a little hot when the summer months hit. Since it’s more inland than San Francisco, Oakland usually enjoys hotter temperatures overall. Summers are dry and warm, while winters are mild and damp — a Mediterranean climate if there ever was one. For many residents, Oakland summers would be quite difficult to deal with if it wasn’t for central air conditioning.
A lot of homeowners living in Berkeley or Oakland, CA find themselves focusing more and more each year on improving energy efficiency. Living a greener, more sustainable lifestyle is no doubt the trend in California, and there are countless different ways in which you can do so. There’s a lot more to home performance than simply energy efficiency, however—especially when it comes to the health and safety of you and your family.
East Bay area homeowners are going to be spending a lot more time indoors in the coming months. At Hassler Heating, we want our customers to have a winter that’s cozy and warm, especially as the holidays approach. If you find yourself turning on your furnace and finding the filters are dirty or clogged, it’s time to take a closer look at the causes. Replacing furnace filters isn’t a big job, but it’s an avoidable nuisance that can end up affecting the efficiency of your unit. Here are some of the most common causes:
"We've had our central heating die twice since 1991 - and of course, both times it was right when the Bay Area got socked by those rare two-week Alaskan freezes! Hassler was booked solid, not surprisingly, but Jackie gave us an appt six days out, so we huddled near portable heaters and resigned ourselves to supporting PG&E.
The tech came as scheduled, and quickly identified the problem (dead ceramic igniter). He said we were fortunate to get 10 yrs out of it; that most go out in 7-8 yrs. Changed it out and yes! We had heat again, thank G*d.
I also asked his advice about thermostats, as I hated the one we had. He said they offered two brands, and hooked up the one he recommended. He told us to just try it - also leaving us the second one, still in the box. He said he would come back in three days and see how we liked it, and if we didn't want it he would switch it out for the other (cheaper) one.
Well, he was right - the one he recommended was easy to program and has very precise controls (which our old one didn't). He came back to check with us, we gave him the unused one back, and paid the bill. GREAT WORK, GREAT SERVICE!"
